Val Foster 
I am a mom of 5 sons who are aged 22, 20.18, 16 and 6 years and I am 43 years old. I am married to John and we have been together for a very long time so I am a busy wife and mother.
My eldest son is severely autistic and I gave up my job to care for my son who has special needs. I have Andrew in a college now 3 days a week and this is why I got into the hobby to lose myself away from the worries and the stresses of everyday life of having a child with a disability and having 4 other sons who really are typically male and not interested in what moms hobby is (they call it fantasy land)!I have to admit it, it is a lovely place to lose myself in because I never knew I had a creative streak. I have only been doing this hobby for two and a half years and in that time I have done 2 dolls houses (1 complete and the other one is half way there), I have done 2 roomboxes and 2 greenhouses. I make all my bedding, tablecloths, paint all wooden flooring and I buy the bare wood to give it my personal touch, I make the miniature bows, I do all the varnishing and painting and I do the decorating and I absolutely love this hobby and I can honestly say it has kept me sane as life is very trying sometimes and I have met some of the loveliest people through this hobby with going to dolls house shops and going to dolls house fairs.
I live in Birmingham and it has a few dolls house shops and I do travel over 30 miles to Dolls Domain which is in Leamington Spa and they have a lovely range of accessories and wallpapers. I also travel to Walsall which is about 10 miles from where I live and that is Jennifer's of Walsall and they have a wide range of accessories, mouldings, wallpapers etc. but I have to say my favourite dolls house shop is Suzimacs which is run by Susie and she has been a lovely lady and I class her as a friend to me, always very pleasant and the shop has a magnificent choice of everything and that shop is a distance away from where I live so for this hobby what I am saying is that I will travel to go and buy something miniature!
I have a good eye for detail and I fill my rooms with detail and give it the realistic look and I want the room to co-ordinate, I do my own flower arrangements in the vases and jardiniere and I am self taught. I have recently been doing some miniature hanging baskets and I have surprised myself with how effective they become once you have filled them with moss and colourful flowers and my wish is to be selling my work. My other passion is greenhouses, I like to decorate the greenhouse as if you can walk in and think of it as a real one, again all attention to detail is what I want in my work. I hope to buy greenhouses from flat pack, decorate and paint the greenhouse and hopefully sell my work.
